How Much Does an Escape Room Cost?
Transparency note: I haven't escaped a room myself yet. This guide is based on public pricing data from 55 escape room operators across the US to give you the most accurate numbers. More on how these guides are put together.
The Short Answer
Escape rooms cost $25 to $50 per person, and which end you land on depends almost entirely on how many people you bring. Most venues price per room, not per head: $100 for a small group (2–4 people) works out to $25–$50 a head, and $150–$200 for 6–8 people works out to $19–$33 a head.
The figure most people quote — $35–$45 for a 60-minute room — is roughly what you pay when you book as a pair or a three. Book as a group of eight and the same room can fall under $20 a head.
What actually changes the price?
| Factor | Price Impact |
|---|---|
| Group size | Prices drop per person as your group grows (e.g., $42/person for 2-3 people vs $29/person for 8-10). |
| Day of the week | Weekends and Friday nights are usually $5–$10 more per person. |
| Room duration | Standard 60-minute rooms are cheaper; 75-minute or 90-minute premium rooms cost more. |
| Company prestige | Top-rated rooms by major companies (like The Escape Game) charge a premium, sometimes up to $45/person. |

Hidden fees to watch out for
- The "Per Person" trap: If you book a 6-person room for 4 people, some venues charge you for all 6 spots unless you book a "private" upgrade. Always ask if the room is exclusively yours.
- Booking fees: If you book through a third-party site, there may be a $3–$5 processing fee.

- r/escaperooms — "What is the range of fee (per head) for escape room?" — players and owners comparing what they actually pay: $35–$45 per person for a 60-minute room is described as the standard rate, and several say anything above $35 should buy you 75 minutes or more. One owner describes tiered pricing at $42 for 2–3 people down to $29 for 8–10 — the small-group surcharge, from their side of the counter.
